When I first heard about Memphis Flyer editor Mary Cashiola’s Swap and Shop, it was just a small event she was planning between her friends. I thought what a cool idea to start in my circle, but as Mary describes on her blog, she thought, "why limit it to just my friends?" "Brilliant idea" - I agree. Since the event centers around recyling your clothing, Mary chose no other fitting date than Earth Day, April 22. In my admiration for those who wouldn’t dare miss great opportunities, Mary gets my applause for organizing this grand event especially since it will benefit my favorite local cause Dress for Success Memphis. Cocktail style event. Bring up to five gently worn ladies' clothing items to swap and shop with other guests. Receive a voucher for each piece of clothing swapped or buy a voucher for $5 each, cash only. You may bring guests. You may buy vouchers after browsing and trying on items. Vouchers redeemable for clothes only night of event; no cash value, no guarantees. Please bring items that you think are suitable for work or play - no jogging suits please! Clothing not swapped will be donated to Dress for Success Memphis. Prizes raffled evening of event - no purchase necessary; must be present to win. Cash Bar - No Cover.
In addition to recycling your wardrobe, you could win an awesome lady's bike from The Peddler Bike Shop or a gift certificate to top notch restaurant Tsunami.
