John Lowe, a Memphis one-man band and owner of Xanadu Music & Books with his wife Bev, plays a special part in the 30 Days of Hope. John is donating one of his signature handmade cigar box guitars known as the Lowebow. Although there are many out there making cigar box guitars, the Lowebow is unique in that it has the electronic amp connection. He has made, by request, these guitars for local group North Mississippi Allstars and Kid Rock, just to name a few.
In addition to donating the guitar for the auction, John will perform his Lowebow at the benefit concert next Thursday, April 30 to kick off the show. There you can experience the unique cigar box sound and his 21st century country-punk stylings.
John is also one of the subjects of a documentary “Songs Inside the Box” debuting at the Memphis International Film Festival this weekend. Max Shores the director will be at the screenings: 12pm on Friday and 3pm on Saturday. He also has self-released seven records that you can find at Xanadu or Goner Records.
Sorry, the Lowebow will no longer be available through the auction. Please contact Xanadu if you would like to purchase one.

THE MUSIC was hosted by the Memphis Songwriters Association and provided by local area songwriters & musicians. The music component added to the movie going experience at the On Location: Memphis 10th Annual international film festival.
ReplyDeleteThe Memphis Songwriters Association also worked with the On location: Memphis Board & Committee to coordinate the first annual On Location: Memphis International Film Festival SONG CONTEST. MSA worked with other local music industry organizations to promote the contest and reached out to local area artists soliciting participation for the contest.
This was the first year attempt to provide music and encourage filmakers and musicians to network and work toward future collaborations.
The Memphis Songwriters, Musicians & friends devoted their time to seeing music was a constant element of the festival starting Thursday and ending Saturday.
To all the musicians & friends that volunteered their time and beautiful music we are greatly appreciative.
A very special thank you to our hard working sound crew (Sound donated by Belo & Beez "The Sound Team").
We hope to continue to improve and refine the musical component of the festival in the years to come.
Great job On Location: Memphis!!!!
